Liverpool’s coaching ranks has seen plenty of changes so far this summer, and there’s no suggestions the reshuffling will slow down any time soon.
John Heitinga, who joined Arne Slot’s staff last summer after spells at West Ham under David Moyes, has been appointed Ajax’s head coach on a two-year contract until 2027.
The 41-year-old Dutchman, a product of the Ajax academy and former interim boss, oversaw 14 wins in 22 matches during his initial stint in Amsterdam and helped Liverpool clinch the Premier League title in 2025 before returning home.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has already been announced as Arne Slot’s new assistant following Heitinga’s departure.
Brazilian goalkeeping coach Cláudio Taffarel ended a four-year stint at Anfield, where he had served as a trusted mentor to Alisson Becker.
The World Cup winner announced his exit via social media, thanking players, staff and fans for an “unforgettable” chapter at the AXA Training Centre.
Meanwhile, another goalkeeping coach in Fabian Otte opted to switch Anfield for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, joining Thomas Frank’s new-look backroom team in North London.
Amid this whirlwind of departures, there is also big changes on the Liverpool FC Women front.
Former Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor, who led City to the Women’s FA Cup in 2020 and the League Cup in 2022, is in talks to succeed Matt Beard according to the Guardian.
The 52-year-old, sacked in March after just under five years at City, could inherit a squad that finished seventh last season under interim boss Amber Whiteley.
Taylor’s potential move would mark a statement of intent from the two-time former WSL champions, who have not challenged for the title in a decade.
His experience at the women’s game’s elite level and proven track record in domestic cup success could provide the foundation Liverpool need to restore their WSL stature.
Former Liverpool Women’s manager Matt Beard has since taken up a role with third-tier side Burnley.
Meanwhile, it what will no doubt be a blow for LFCW, Arsenal confirmed the signing of Taylor Hinds on a free signing from Melwood.
