Former Uruguay and Napoli midfielder Walter Gargano has disclosed a transfer talk he had with Darwin Nunez recently.

Gargano made 189 Serie A appearances for the Naples side between 2007 and 2015.

He also earned 63 caps for Uruguay between 2006 and his international retirement, scoring one goal for La Celeste.

It’s fair to say that he should have some interesting insights on whether Darwin Nunez moves to Napoli or not this summer.

Liverpool and Napoli are set to hold direct talks today to discuss the conditions of the 25-year-old’s potential transfer, with negotiations still in their early stages despite the player’s approval for the move.

The No.9 has reportedly given his “initial green light” to Antonio Conte’s project after being presented with Napoli’s vision.

The transfer now hinges on financial feasibility, with the Serie A side determined to whittle down Liverpool’s asking price.

And while the clubs are ironing out details, it seems that Nunez himself is already committed to Antonio Conte’s men.

Gargano, speaking on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, has revealed that the Liverpool man has already told him he wants to sign for Napoli:

“I heard Darwin Nunez, he said ‘yes, I’m coming to Naples?

I’ waiting to sign.'”

“I talked to Nunez on the phone, he will decide with his family as De Bruyne did.”

“He told me he wants to come right away, he’s waiting to sign with Napoli.”

Upon agreement, Nunez is expected to undergo a medical in Naples before officially signing, joining the Serie A ahead of the 2025–26 season.

It would add to the impressive business of Scott McTominay last summer, and the confirmed free agent signing of Kevin De Bruyne.

While Antonio Conte does not normally last long at his posts, Napoli won the Scudetto last season and are now placed to have an even better campaign next term.

For Liverpool, they will hope to recoup as much of the fee as possible they paid for the Uruguayan in 2022.
