Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah’s underlying attacking stats have been poor in the early stages of the Premier League season.

However, the 33-year-old did give notice of his appetite for destruction as well as the big occasion by firing Liverpool to their Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid, notching a goal and an assist in a 3-2 triumph at Anfield on Wednesday, 17 September.

The forward also scored a last-gasp penalty when the Reds clinched a 1-0 win over Burnley in their last Premier League game.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are preparing for their clash with local rivals Everton at Anfield on Saturday, 20 September.

After Salah was on target against Atletico Madrid, Arne Slot will want the Egypt international to produce the goods once more in the Merseyside derby.

Only Anfield icon Steven Gerrard, with nine, has bettered Salah’s return of eight Premier League goals for Liverpool against Everton.

However, as per BBC Sport, four painfully stark statistic lay bare his league struggles this term.

In the new season the 33-year-old has managed his lowest return per 90 Premier League minutes when it comes to shots (1.3), shots on target (0.8), expected goals (0.3) and touches in the opposition’s box (6.3).

Slot needs Salah to improve on those statistics to pave the way for him to smash Gerrard’s record and spearhead what would be a notable derby triumph.

The winning mentality that Liverpool have shown against Atletico Madrid and in the Premier League this season suggests that they are more than capable of defeating Everton on 20 September.

However, Slot must be wary of the fact that the Toffees have enjoyed a four-game unbeaten run across all competitions since their 1-0 defeat to Leeds United in the top flight’s opening weekend.

Liverpool should have too much firepower for David Moyes’ backline, though, regardless of whether Alexander Isak or Hugo Ekitike is given the nod to start in the Merseyside Derby.

Meanwhile, likely title challengers Arsenal, who lost 1-0 at Anfield last month, are playing Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, 21 September.

The Gunners utilised the summer transfer window to heavily bolster their squad with the additions of players like Cristhian Mosquera, Viktor Gyokeres, and Eberechi Eze.

However, Man City are in good form following their back-to-back wins over Manchester United and Napoli, so they can beat the Gunners, which would see the North Londoners sitting six points behind Liverpool, if the Reds beat Everton.

Elsewhere, ex-FIFA referee Keith Hackett exclusively told Liverpool News 247 that Anfield could face a partial stadium closure after the altercation between Atletico boss Diego Simeone and a group of supporters.
