A young person's mental health charity is holding free 'LFC parade incident support sessions' to offer help to anyone who has been affected after 65 people were injured by a car at a parade to celebrate Liverpool winning the Premier League.

Police were contacted just after 6pm on Monday, May 26 after receiving reports a car had hit a number of people on Water Street in the city centre.

A large emergency service presence remained in the city following what happened on Monday.

A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs.

Youth charity the Be Free Campaign is holding a number of 90-minute sessions for young people who may have been affected by Monday's events.

The sessions will cover "strategies for managing feelings of anxiety, stress and worry following the LFC parade event", as well as "guided grounding techniques to help cope with difficult feelings".

Anyone attending the sessions, which will be held at BOXPARK in Liverpool's Baltic Triangle, will also receive information on accessing further support and counselling if needed.

Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided for parents and caregivers, with sessions for adults also available.

Danika Leahey is the director of operations for the charity and she told the ECHO: "Be Free Campaign is a youth-led mental health and wellbeing charity that works to give children and young people the tools they need to look after their mental health, both on a day to day basis and through periods of increased stress and anxiety.

"For us, doing nothing wasn't an option, we knew children and young people present would need support, and those who have viewed the footage online after seeing images of such joy and celebration only minutes before would struggle to come to terms with what they were seeing unfolding in their city.

"We've had young people including teenage boys asking for support, which is really encouraging as this group tends to be labelled as one that doesn't talk about their struggles or ask for help.

"We've also had families asking for support including full families who were at the parade together, expecting to spend a day making memories they'll cherish and have struggled with the event and what they've seen and experienced.

"The Liverpool Community have been amazing in supporting the sessions by sharing what we're doing to help get it to those who need it.

"To date, the initial offer has been seen by almost 300,000 people which we've been blown away by as a small charity.

The sessions are being held every day during half term, apart from Saturday, May 31, and will run between 2pm and 5pm each day.

In a statement posted on social media, the Be Free Campaign said: "We are offering free 90 minute sessions throughout half term to children and young people impacted by the incident which took place following the LFC parade.

"If anybody you know under 25 has been affected by recent events please get in touch our visit our link in [our Instagram] bio to sign up.

Thank you so much to everybody who has supported so far."
