Fresh Ibrahima Konate contract update emerges

Liverpool find themselves in familiar territory as centre-back Ibrahima Konate enters the final year of his contract, fuelling speculation over his future at Anfield.

The 26-year-old’s current deal runs until June 2026, at which point he would be free to negotiate with overseas clubs – a scenario already on Real Madrid’s radar.



Despite numerous talks, Konate has reportedly turned down three contract extension offers from the Reds, leaving negotiations at an impasse.



Fabrizio Romano revealed that discussions resumed last summer and continued through the autumn, but “new details” stalled progress, and “there is no agreement at this stage” on fresh terms.

Now Lewis Steele, writing in his Liverpool Confidential, has provided a further update.

He claims that Real Madrid are confident of securing the Frenchman on a free, and explains that it’s the same sources who told him Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid as early as December:

“Real Madrid are confident they can sign Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer next summer, according to sources in Spain,” Steele began.

“Confidential has spoken to multiple sources in the Spanish capital and they have told us that Real are growing in confidence in tempting Konate, 26, to join them.”

“The same sources told us last December that Alexander-Arnold would almost certainly join the Madrid giants and some have gone as far to suggest this week that senior club staffers have openly discussed how they believe they are close to a verbal agreement with Konate.”

“It is understood, though, that the defender has not communicated any desire to leave to Liverpool at this stage and the player has not yet fully made up his mind
