New details on Jarell Quansah’s buy-back clause has emerged now that the transfer window has slammed shut – and it’s looking like a better deal for Liverpool each passing day.

Leverkusen secured the England under-21 international on a five-year contract, paying an initial fee of £30 million plus up to £5 million in add-ons, making it one of the club’s record signings this summer

Liverpool also negotiated a buy-back clause, allowing a potential return in 2027 for around £51.5 million (€60 million).

A product of Liverpool’s academy since age five, Quansah amassed 58 senior appearances, scored three goals, and won both the Carabao Cup and Premier League before his departure.

He broke into the first team under Jürgen Klopp in August 2023, contributing 33 matches during the 2023-24 season and playing 13 league games in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign under Arne Slot.

And while Liverpool were lauded for inserting a buy-back clause for Quansah, it seems their control on the player runs even deeper.

Merseyside reporter Lewis Steele has revealed that the Anfield club already have a pre-contract agreement for Quansah should the buy-back clause be excercised.

This means that the Reds wont even have to negotiate on personal terms, the contract is already pre-agreed:

“It can be revealed that Liverpool have a pre-existing agreement in place with Quansah over the terms of a future contract should they decide to use their buyback clause that was inserted when he was sold to Bayer Leverkusen for £35m this summer,” Steele wrote in his Liverpool Confidential.

“They like him a lot, as they do Harvey Elliott and Ben Doak, and only sold him because it seemed like good money and the Englishman wanted to play every week – something Slot could not promise him here.”

“But with Van Dijk most probably leaving in two years, Konate unsure about his future and Gomez very nearly departing two summers running, they will need more centre backs in the coming windows.”
