Some big claims on Rodrygo and his future have emerged from his native Brazil this week.

The 24-year-old was an unused substitute in Real Madrid’s opening La Liga game on Tuesday, with the Spanish giants labouring to a 1-0 win courtesy of a Kylian Mbappe penalty.

He watched from the bench as younger players like Franco Mastantuono and Gonzalo García were given opportunities ahead of him.

When questioned about his decision to omit Rodrygo from the match, manager Xabi Alonso offered a diplomatic but telling response: “Nothing is happening.

I count on Rodrygo of course?

This was my decision”.

However, the manager’s actions suggest a different reality.

FSG CEO of Football Michael Edwards has a long-standing admiration for Rodrygo, having first attempted to sign him from Santos in 2017 when the player was just a teenager.

And it seems Liverpool could be in a position to finally land the Brazilian.

According to journalist Jorge Nicola, reporting on his YouTube channel, the message is clear.

Rodrygo is leaving Real Madrid and will play either for Liverpool or Manchester City:
