Darwin Nunez cut out a delighted figure at Anfield hoisting the Premier League crown aloft, but it may be the Uruguayan’s final appearance at the famous stadium as a Liverpool player amid interest from Atletico Madrid and Saudi Arabia.

The 25-year-old forward, who arrived as Liverpool’s record signing for £85 million in 2022, has endured a disappointing 2024-25 campaign that has seen him relegated to the fringes of the first team and sparked intense speculation about his future.

While the Saudi Pro League has been touted as his most realistic destination, links with Atletico Madrid have surfaced in recent weeks.

According to Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Nunez has reached a “verbal agreement” to join Atletico Madrid, having given his “full approval” to the potential transfer.

The striker is described as being “hugely attracted” to the idea of joining the Madrid club and is reportedly “already working” on plans to move his life to the Spanish capital to expedite any potential deal

The Athletic’s James Pearce has confirmed that Atletico Madrid are “among the European clubs monitoring Nunez’s situation.

The Saudi Pro League has emerged as another significant player in the Núñez transfer saga, with Al-Hilal having made a substantial offer during the January transfer window.

Reports suggest Al-Hilal were prepared to pay Liverpool around £70 million for the striker, while Al Nassr were also linked with an eye-watering package worth approximately £29 million per year, equating to £558,000 per week.

And while it has been touted that he will most likely be Saudi bound, a fresh report from the country has now cast doubt on the move.

Saudi outlet 365 Scores have reported their latest on the matter.

According to them, the Saudi Investment Fund has clarified to them the situation regarding Nunez’s potential move to the Saudi Pro League for the 2025/2026 season.

It is claimed that while Nunez has been offered to leading clubs in the Roshn League, none have prioritized signing him at this stage.

Instead, Saudi clubs are currently focusing on other transfer targets, with Nunez considered more of a backup option.

As a result, there have been no official offers or direct negotiations with the player, as he is not yet a preferred candidate for any Saudi club.

The four Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) clubs, Al-Hilal, Al-Nasr, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli, are likely the only sides that would be able to afford the Uruguayan.

365 Scores have been reliable in the past, and if their latest reports prove true, it seems Nunez’s future may still lie in Europe.
