Liverpool fans should maybe start to prepare themselves for another summer saga on top of Florian Wirtz.
On Thursday, David Ornstein reported that Barcelona had made a preliminary approach for Luis Diaz to Liverpool.
The Anfield club is said to have firmly dismissed Barcelona’s inquiry for the Colombian winger while his contract situation remains unresolved.
Barcelona made their move for Diaz on Wednesday, but Liverpool’s response was swift and decisive.
The Premier League champions told Barcelona that the Colombian international is not for sale, with head coach Arne Slot viewing him as a key component for the 2025-26 season.
Despite Barcelona sporting director Deco’s public admission of interest, Liverpool have made their stance clear.
Now Spanish outlet Marca has given their slant on proceedings and explain how Barcelona now feel about the initial rejection.
According to them, the Catalan side is not ruffled by Liverpool’s stance.
The club views Liverpool’s answer as a potential negotiation strategy rather than a definitive end to discussions.
Barcelona’s leadership is said to understand that transfer negotiations, particularly for high-profile players, often involve a prolonged process of offers and counteroffers.
The Spanish champions remain optimistic about their chances of eventually securing Díaz’s signature, particularly as they believe the player himself is attracted to the prospect of playing under manager Hansi Flick
Barcelona has alternative options prepared should the Diaz transfer ultimately prove impossible.
With two years left on his contract and no discussions about a renewal underway, Diaz is considered to be at peak market value this summer.
Díaz’s current contract, signed in January 2022, runs until 2027 and pays him £2.86 million per year, placing him among the club’s lower wage earners.
Liverpool reportedly values Díaz at €85 million (£72 million).
