Rodrygo was once seen as a jewel in Real Madrid’s crown, but over the last months, the Brazilian has quietly slipped into the background at the Bernabeu.
Despite his heroics in previous Champions League campaigns, his status has shifted from untouchable to something closer to expendable under Xabi Alonso.
With Vinícius Jr., Kylian Mbappé, and Jude Bellingham now firmly ahead of him in the attacking pecking order, Rodrygo has increasingly become the odd man out – especially during last season’s Club World Cup, where he managed just 92 minutes of action, mostly off the bench.
Liverpool’s interest is both logical and opportunistic.
Luis Diaz is looking increasingly likely to depart Anfield this summer, and the Reds will want a replacement that can fill the Colombians shoes adequately.
Bayern Munich are expected to offer around €75m for the Colombian this summer, making a move for Rodygo possible.
Indeed, Diario Madridista have reported that the Bernabéu giants are now openly waiting for Liverpool to pick up the phone and negotiate a sale for the Brazilian.
Despite Rodrygo’s €1 billion release clause—which reads more like political posturing than negotiable reality -club president Florentino Pérez and his board have quietly signaled to agents and intermediaries that they would seriously consider bids in the €90–100 million range.
They know Rodrygo’s value is at risk of diminishing if he spends another season mostly watching from the bench, and with young prodigies like Franco Mastantuono waiting in the wings, a big-money exit could finance further squad renewal.
The Brazilian, meanwhile, is said to be conflicted: he loves Madrid and wants to fight for his place, but he is also acutely aware of needing regular football to remain a key part of Brazil’s 2026 World Cup plans.
Journalist Miguel Serrano reports that any move would of course be dependent on a Luis Diaz sale – and that the Reds will present an offer once the sale of the Colombian is closed:
“Real Madrid are waiting for a call from Liverpool, which could take place next week, to negotiate the transfer of Rodrygo Goes.
“The red club has placed itself in pole position among the aspirants to sign the Brazilian striker.”
“The Anfield side, who already broke the market with the signing of Florian Wirtz for 135 million, are willing to present Real Madrid with an offer for the Brazilian striker when they close the transfer of Colombian Luis Diaz, who interests Bayern Munich.”
It is claimed that call could come as early as next week for Rodrygo.
If the Bavarians meet Liverpool’s asking price for Diaz, we can expect the Reds to go all-in for Rodrygo, knowing that at 24, he offers both present quality and future upside
