Fulham have been fined over irregularities stemming from Fabio Carvalho’s transfer to Liverpool in the summer of 2022.

This is according to a Premier League statement on the matter, who have fined Fulham £75,000 and given the London club a suspended six-month ban “from registering any academy players currently or previously registered with another club”.

The punishment stems from a payment the Cottagers made to Balham Blazers FC following Carvalho’s transfer to Liverpool.

Balham Blazers were the club he initially started playing at in England upon his transfer from Benfica’s youth academy.

He transferred to Fulham’s academy in December 2014, and now the Cottagers are guilty of defaults in Premier League rules regarding their dealings with Balham Blazers.

A Premier League statement on the matter reads:

“The Premier League and Fulham FC have entered into a sanction agreement following the Club’s accepted breaches of the Premier League Rules in relation to player registrations.”

“The Club will face a six-month ban (suspended for one year) from registering any Academy players currently or previously registered with another club and will pay a £75,000 fine.”

“The suspended registrations ban commenced on 15 April 2024.”

“As required by the Premier League Rules, the sanction agreement has been ratified by three members of the Independent Judicial Panel.”

Fabio Carvalho impressing at Hull City

In a less serious discussion, the Liverpool man has certainly been enjoying his time with the Tigers this season.

Fabio Carvalho did not enjoy the greatest debut season in 2022/23.

This was partly because there is no set position for him in Jurgen Klopp’s system.

But also, it was a poor season by Liverpool’s lofty standards and there was not much scope for experimentation.

The 21-year-old joined RB Leipzig on loan at beginning of the 2023/24 season.

There was hope that loan spell in the Bundesliga would help reignite the 21-year-old’s Anfield career – but it did not pan out that way.

Now on loan at Hull City alongside fellow Liverpool man Tyler Morton, Carvalho looks himself again.

He has made 19 appearances in the Championship since the end of January, impressing with nine goals and two assists.

Hopefully under Arne Slot, the England U21 international can find his feet at Anfield and showcase his true potential.
