Fulham could now accelerate their efforts to sign Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund this week as one of their main centre-forward options moves closer to an exit.

Hojlund was unable to make much of a positive impact in his second season in Manchester, with just four goals scored in 34 league appearances after netting 10 in 30 league games in his debut campaign.

The Danish striker was signed from Atalanta in 2023 for a fee of £72million [BBC], and has seen strong competition for places up-front arrive this summer in the form of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and recent high-profile capture Benjamin Sesko.

Former Red Devils scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier in the summer that Hojlund is unlikely to still be at Old Trafford when the window ends after his lacklustre recent campaign.

Recent reports have claimed that Fulham are interested in a move for Hojlund as they aim to bolster their attacking options, and a new development on the future of one of their own strikers could see the Cottagers ramp up their efforts to sign the 22-year-old.

Serie A outfit Atalanta recently had a bid rejected for Muniz, but he is reportedly “determined” to join the club, and journalist Sacha Tavolieri has revealed via X (19 August) that Fulham have now reached a €40m (£34.6m) “financial agreement in principle” for Muniz with Atalanta.

He states that the West London outfit will only let the Brazilian forward leave if they manage to find a replacement, and they are “speeding things up in the market,” so a move for Hojlund now seems realistic with the season already underway.

Ex-United scout Brown told Football Insider on Tuesday (19 August) that Hojlund now looks “certain” to leave Man United after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim, with the Portuguese boss leaving him out of his squad for their season-opener against Arsenal on Sunday (17 August).

Fulham are going to be in real need of a new striker soon if Muniz completes his move to Italy, with Raul Jimenez as Marco Silva’s only other senior centre-forward option as it stands.

The Independent (18 August) have reported that Hojlund has been “considered as an option to replace the Brazilian’s [Muniz’s] firepower,” this summer, and he would be a decent signing despite his struggles at Man United.

The Dane has shown promise in his two years there, with 10 goals in 30 league games in 2023/24 as well as six strikes in 15 Europa League outings last term, and would definitely provide a strong alternative to Mexican international Jimenez if Silva backs himself to get the best out of him this season.

United’s 2024/25 campaign was one to remember for all the wrong reasons, and letting Hojlund go makes sense as they aim to improve this season, but Fulham could hugely benefit if they move quickly to bring him to West London.

Hojlund has been linked with a move to Serie A champions Napoli in recent months, while AC Milan are also keen on loaning him in [BBC], and either of those would be good moves for him to get his career back on track in a league and country that he is already familiar with.

AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare recently admitted that his club are interested in the 22-year-old, saying: “Hojlund is a good option for us…we are evaluating him these days, but the transfer market is unpredictable.”

Both of those sides possess more pulling power than Fulham, given their respective sizes and offer of a fresh start in another country, and so the Cottagers must prove to Hojlund that they want him as soon as possible with Muniz seemingly on his way out.
