Liverpool’s perfect start to the 2025/26 season continued on Saturday afternoon with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Everton.

Superb goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike were enough to seal the three points, but the home crowd faced a nail-biting finish after Idrissa Gueye pulled one back for the Toffees.

Arne Slot raised eyebrows before the game by leaving out his two blockbuster summer signings in Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, although both eventually made it onto the pitch.

The head coach has enjoyed a dream start to his tenure at Anfield but will soon be halfway through the three-year contract he signed upon joining in June 2024.

With confidence in the boss sky high amongst both players and fans, should the club be looking to extend his contract in the near future?

On the latest episode of our Journo Insight show, we asked the Liverpool Echo’s LFC correspondent Paul Gorst for his thoughts on Arne Slot’s contract.

Paul said:

“We had a chance to speak to Slot before the Palace game, so the last game of last season… The conversation of a contract did come up.

“He said what you might expect Slot to say about any contract question, even if it was off the record.

“You look at the performance that he’s had since he came in as head coach in June 2024.

There have to be some discussions with Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards.

“I think he’s fully deserving of a new contract.

Arne Slot has been a revelation since being appointed as Liverpool’s first ever head coach last June, defying the expectations of many by winning the Premier League in his debut season.

Thankfully, those fears were well wide of the mark, as the Dutchman has led with confidence and competence from day one.

FSG’s unprecedented summer transfer spending shows their total faith in the head coach, so an offer to tie him down beyond 2027 would seem the natural next step.

With Arne Slot at the helm, it looks as if the sky is the limit for Liverpool FC.
