Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has outlined on the club’s official website how Jurgen Klopp has been winding up Andy Robertson.

Lijnders has mentioned in his training camp diary on Liverpool’s official website how manager Klopp has been praising young goalkeeper Harvey Davies in training.

Davies has been making good saves in training, and that has been frustrating for Liverpool left-back Robertson.

Lijnders told Liverpool’s official website: “They are ending the session with counter-attacks; the passes are well played in front to keep the right speed but Harvey Davies killed the exercise by making some spectacular saves.

“Jurgen shouts from 100 metres, ‘Love it Harvey!’ but Robbo is fuming! Haha! In these counter-attacking drills, when our players don’t score they need to sprint back quickly to the half-way line. Remember one of our coaching principles, the better you play the more you play.

“The better you finish the less you run. The worse you play the more you run. Natural pressure. I like to make the team fit in this way a lot.”

Lijnders’s comments suggest that training sessions at Liverpool are very competitive yet there is harmony in the squad.

It seems that Liverpool manager Klopp likes to keep his players on the toes and push them by creating a competitive environment in the camp.

It is a very good tactic, and given the success that the Reds have had over the years, it appears that it is working.

Liverpool endured a disappointing season in 2020-21 and could not win the Premier League title.

The Reds will be determined to reclaim the title from Manchester City next season.

Liverpool will also be keen on winning the Champions League next season.

Robertson is one of the best left-backs in the world, and the Scotland international would play a big role for the Reds next season.

The Liverpool no.26 scored one goal and gave seven assists in 38 Premier League matches last season.
