An Arsenal star could be the next player to be axed from the squad as Mikel Arteta continues his assent towards major silverware.

Mikel Arteta signed eight new players to his Arsenal squad this summer and has been ruthless in the past at offloading stars.

The Gunners have started the season with two wins from three as they look to win a first Premier League title in over 20 years.

Arteta has turned Arsenal into consistent title challengers since he joined the club in December 2019, but he has still yet to deliver the Premier League title to North London.

Gabriel Martinelli has come into the firing line at Arsenal due to his lack of contribution in-front of goal.

The 24-year-old has yet to register a goal or assist this campaign, and was dropped to the bench against Leeds on matchday two.

The Athletic [5 September], state that amid his poor form, Martinelli “could become the next victim of Arsenal’s ongoing evolution.”

“The likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus have been signed, integrated, then sacrificed on the altar of progress,” The Athletic said.

Martinelli faces more competition down the left flank this season following the arrivals of Noni Madueke from Chelsea and Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.

Arteta is not afraid to make bold changes when required, and has previous in dropping or selling players whom the fans least expect.

Martinelli though does need to increase his output in-front of goal, and with Eze now ready to start after the international break, this could be the beginning of his exit from the club.
