After being frozen out for a number of months, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been called up to represent England once again. The Scouse defender has experienced a tricky international career so far despite his success at club level, but he now seems to be back involved.

The tactical switch — which first happened around two months ago — has allowed the Englishman to dominate proceedings, create chances and dictate games. It remains to be seen how Southgate will use him for England, but is it worth noting that he deployed in midfield before Klopp back in 2021.



Rather than Southgate using Alexander-Arnold as an inverted full-back who drifts inside, he could technically play him as an outright midfielder from start to finish for England. That is a luxury that Klopp doesn't have, as his only other right-back options at Anfield are Calvin Ramsay and .



With those players in the squad, it makes sense for Southgate to simply field Alexander-Arnold as a conventional midfielder.
