Chelsea are pushing to sign Man United star Alejandro Garnacho and are confident of reaching an agreement, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the Blues have been in contact with the 21-year-old and his agent.
The winger has been widely expected to leave Old Trafford after a public falling-out with Ruben Amorim and is now closing in on an exit.
Brown told Football Insider in May that Chelsea are planning a fresh move for Garnacho after missing out on his signature during the January transfer window.
Given United’s desire to cash in on the Argentina international, there is a growing feeling that a deal will be reached in due course with all parties keen.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Garnacho wants to stay in the Premier League and has instructed his agent to find him a club at the top level.

This article contains exclusive comment from Mick Brown, a football transfer expert and former chief scout for Man United and Sunderland among others.
Brown told Football Insider on 10 July that Man United could slash Garnacho’s asking price in an effort to drum up interest late in the transfer window.
The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted Chelsea have now emerged as clear front-runners for the deal and believe it will get done.
“Everybody is expecting Garnacho to leave,” he told Football Insider.
“Chelsea are the one club who have shown a genuine desire to bring him in.
“He’s been linked with a lot of clubs, the likes of Tottenham and a few others, but none of them have made a move yet and Chelsea have.
“It feels like Chelsea are signing anybody and everybody at the moment, I don’t know how they do it.
“Garnacho is one they’ve been looking at for a while, and there is that desire from all sides to get the deal done because he doesn’t have a part to play under Amorim.
“He’s a very talented player, but the answer for him has always been to get a move away.
“So for that reason, it feels like they are confident of getting that move.
“Chelsea have been speaking to him and his agent, so I think it won’t be too long until they reach an agreement over a price with United.“

Garnacho is not the only player who has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford, as speculation continues to surround Rasmus Hojlund.
Brown told Football Insider on 4 August that Man United will accept offers for Hojlund if they can land a new striker, but he is more likely to stay than leave.
That represents a significant U-turn from the boss, after Brown told Football Insider in May that Hojlund is unlikely to remain at Old Trafford in the coming season.
After missing out on key attacking targets Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres, there is a growing feeling the Denmark international could remain their leading number nine.
