Following Harvey Elliott’s assist and emphatic outside-of-the-box finish against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, the Liverpool youngster continues to receive plaudits.

The strike took Elliott's tally to four goals and nine assists in all competitions this season and he's been tipped to play a big role under new manager Arne Slot.

And the BBC's Garth Crooks joined in with the praise for Elliott - while expressing his shock at Chelsea's decision to reject the signing of the midfielder as a youngster.

He said: “At no stage did Spurs look like they were going to get anything out of this match and by the time Harvey Elliott had hit an absolute belter from just outside the box the game was all over.

I’m amazed football clubs in England still think in those terms”.

At the age of just 21, Elliott has already made 162 professional appearances across the Championship and Premier League, scoring 17 times, and having 24 assists.

When speaking to BBC MOTD, Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for the young midfielder, indicating that he may not have played him enough and declaring what he wants to see Elliott doing next season.

“Did Harvey Elliott play enough this season?

I will watch that definitely and enjoy it," he said.

Elliott is now level with Alexis Mac Allister for the most goal contributions among Liverpool’s midfielders this season.

Last year, Elliott spoke on the ‘We Are Liverpool Podcast’ on Chelsea’s decision to reject him as a youngster and the effects this had on him.

I thought I was finished, and I wasn’t going to have a football career.

“I respected their decision; I played Sunday League for a bit with my friends and then I went to Fulham after that”.

Elliott then went on to make three appearances for Fulham, before signing for Liverpool for £1.5 million with £2.8 million in bonuses, breaking the record fee for a 16-year-old at that time.

Now becoming a solidified member of the squad for Liverpool, making 51 appearances across all competitions, the decision to reject Elliott will be one that will continue to haunt Chelsea.
