Gary Neville, pictured on the latest It's Called Soccer podcast, thinks before naming Arsenal, and not Liverpool, as his 2025-26 Premier League champions

The dust may have hardly settled on the Premier League season.

However, it's clear that champions Liverpool and the top-flight's other leading lights are already planning their 2025-26 assaults.

Liverpool got their hands on the trophy 10 days ago amid joyous scenes at Anfield after blowing Arsenal and Manchester City out of the water to make it a record-equalling 20th league title.

Since then the Reds have signed Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong for £29.5m, started talks with his team-mate Florian Wirtz over a £100m-plus move that looks set to smash the British transfer record, and reportedly stepped up their interest in Bournemouth's £45m-rated Milos Kerkez.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are closing on a deal for former Liverpool midfield target Martin Zubimendi and are said to be weighing up which striker to sign out of Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko.

Having watched Wirtz turn them down in favour of a move to Merseyside, Manchester City are stepping up their efforts to sign Lyon's Rayan Cherki, AC Milan's Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Ait Nouri of Wolves.

Chelsea are signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and also want AC Milan's Mike Maignan while fallen giants Manchester United have splashed out £62.5m on Matheus Cunha from Wolves and may have to pay the same price to bring in Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

United's double salvo in the market is in response to their embarrassing 15th-placed finish in the Premier League and their limp loss in the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

It was a far cry from where Gary Neville predicted them to finish.

He believed the Red Devils would secure third spot behind Manchester City and champions Arsenal and one place ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, who despite eventually finishing an astonishing 17th, did secure Champions League football by beating Neville's former club in the Europa League showpiece.

The Old Trafford legend later admitted he got it badly wrong in saying Liverpool would not make the top four.

On the latest edition of the It's Called Soccer podcast on the US Overlap channel, he was asked who will lift the 2025-26 Premier League crown.

And he said: "I’ve got to go Arsenal again, I’ve got to double down, haven’t I?

"I’ve gone there the last two seasons and they finished second in the last three seasons, actually.

"I didn’t back them the first season, I backed City, but I backed them the last two and I’m going to stick with them."

Neville was also asked on the podcast about the transfer business the Reds are doing.

He said: "I think when you’re talking about winning the league, what is it that improves you?

"I mean, the only thing that’s going to improve you when you win the league is signing world-class players, or players that have got the potential to be world-class players.

But I wouldn’t have expected anything else from Liverpool."

Liverpool and the rest of the Premier League will discover their 2025-26 fixtures when they are released two weeks today on Wednesday, June 18.
