Gary Neville's pre-season comments regarding Liverpool's midfield have resurfaced on social media after Manchester United's 4-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

The Red Devils endured a night to forget at Selhurst Park as Erik ten Hag's season went from bad to worse.

Casemiro, filling in at centre-back, had a disastrous evening, and few of his fellow team-mates came away with any credit.

It means United now sit eighth in the Premier League table, some 24 points behind Liverpool, having suffered a record-high 13 league defeats.

Jamie Carragher was highly critical of Ten Hag's side when assessing the game on Sky Sports, and this morning he took the opportunity to rub this result in the face of Gary Neville, sharing a clip of the former right-back speaking ahead of the current campaign.

Neville, unconvinced by the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, boldly claimed Klopp would want to trade his options for those at the disposal of Ten Hag.

I think Klopp would swap his midfield now for United's," said the ex-United right-back.

This is not the first time Neville has seen a pre-season prediction relating to Liverpool cause a stir, however.

Ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, he famously said: "I can guarantee you, as clear as day, Manchester United will win again.

They’ll probably win the league before Liverpool, in my opinion.

And that’s not being disrespectful, they’ll probably win the league before Liverpool."

Klopp's side would, of course, win the title by an 18-point margin that year, ending 33 points clear of United.
