The final 24 hours of the summer transfer window brought a mix of highs and lows for Arne Slot and his team.

The standout news was the long-awaited arrival of Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool for a British-record fee?

Liverpool also pursued Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, but the deal ultimately fell through, and he remains with the Eagles.

Outgoing moves were also confirmed

Harvey Elliott completed a loan move to Aston Villa, which includes an obligation to buy.

Joe Gomez, despite interest from AC Milan, will stay at Anfield following the collapse of the Guehi transfer.

Off the pitch, Liverpool have made significant changes to their management structure during the international break.

Gary Probert has departed Ipswich Town after four years to take up the role of Head of Loan Management at Liverpool, according to Training Ground Guru.

Matt Newberry had been handling this key position for the Reds since April 2023, initially on an interim basis, before moving into the newly created role of Director of Global Talent in November 2024.

Since Newberry’s promotion, the Reds had been seeking a full-time leader for their loans programme.

Probert has served as Ipswich’s Director of Football Operations since November 2021, overseeing multiple departments across the men’s, women’s, and Academy teams.

He also has a strong background in coaching and youth development.

Before joining Ipswich, Probert spent more than eight years at Bristol City, most recently as Academy Director, and before that, he was Youth Development Manager at Forest Green Rovers for two years.

Liverpool were among the early adopters of the Loan Manager role.

Julian Ward was the club’s first Loan Pathways and Football Partnerships Manager, a position he held for five years from 2015 before progressing to Assistant Sporting Director.
