Florian Wirtz is on the verge of completing a seismic move to Liverpool according to all accounts.

The 22-year-old is expected to finalize terms this summer in a transfer that could be worth €150 million (£126 million), eclipsing Liverpool’s previous record of £85 million for Darwin Núñez.

Since joining Leverkusen from Köln’s youth academy in 2020, he has amassed 66 goals and 69 assists in 223 appearance

Florian Wirtz has been voted the Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2024/25 by the Vereinigung der Vertragsfußballspieler or German professional footballers’ union.

It caps off a remarkable campaign for the Bayer Leverkusen star, even if his team struggled to replicate the success of 2023/24.

He contributed 10 goals and 12 assists in 31 league matches.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder received 29.1% of the vote from his fellow professionals, outpacing Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane (20%) and Michael Olise (17%) to secure the prestigious accolade

The vote saw Wirtz edge out some of the Bundesliga’s biggest names?

Harry Kane, who finished as the league’s top scorer, and Michael Olise, who enjoyed a breakout campaign at Bayern, were both left in Wirtz’s wake as the Leverkusen midfielder’s consistent excellence was recognized by fellow professionals.

However, Harry Kane won the official Bundesliga Player of the Season award given out by the governing body of the league.

For Wirtz, the football union award may have more merit as it’s decided directly by his peers and the player’s he goes up against for nine months of the year.
