Although Liverpool’s season feels long gone after more than a week since the curtain fell, the campaign is amazingly still ongoing.
After the rigours of a nine month season, various Reds players are still in action for their countries.
Of course, with the transfer window open, this has given Liverpool supporters another little window into scouting potential arrivals.
None of those possible signings come bigger than Florian Wirtz, who is on the cusp of a mega move to Anfield for a likely British record fee.
In the meantime, Wirtz turned out for Germany on Wednesday night as they faced Portugal in the Nations League semi-final.
And although the 22-year-old got his goal, Die Mannschaft were ultimately beaten 2-1 by Diogo Jota and co.
Following what was a poor performance from their team, the German national media gave a disappointing verdict on Wirtz’s display.

Wirtz’s potential move to Liverpool has only heightened feelings that he is now Germany’s main man on the international stage.
But, with all eyes on him in Munich, the Bayer Leverkusen maestro failed to truly deliver.

He did get his goal, heading home after a brilliant one-two with Joshua Kimmich, but this was not enough to impress the media in his homeland.
BILD scores Wirtz with a three out of 10, claiming the ‘almost Liverpool player’ was ‘barely visible’ during the first half especially.
It is noted that he picked himself up to score, but he does not appear to get extra marks for doing so.

Sport1 is equally disparaging, also handing Wirtz a rating of three.
10 ‘disappeared’ before and after his goal, when the German team were in ‘desperate need of his genius.’
Finally, Sky Germany offers no let-up.
While praising Wirtz for his goal they suggest his display was ‘disappointing’ overall, and was not worth more than another three out of 10.
They put this down to the absence of Jamal Musiala with Liverpool’s prospective signing said to be missing his ‘congenial partner’ in the team.
Following his underwhelming, yet goal-scoring, performance for his nation, Wirtz was asked about his impending move to Liverpool.
Standing in the mixed zone after the match, journalist Lewis Steele filmed himself asking the attacking midfielder if he is ‘excited for Liverpool.’
The question catches the attention of Wirtz, who snaps his head quickly towards the reporter.
While no verbal answer was forthcoming, the Leverkusen man’s curt nod of the head told the whole story.
This may not have been his best performance, but Wirtz still grabbed himself a goal.
