Gianluigi Donnarumma is now set to wear the number 25 shirt after joining Man City from PSG this summer.
Questions have already been raised over James Trafford following his mistake against Tottenham, with Pep Guardiola now able to choose between him and a Champions League winner between the sticks.
Donnarumma has been famous for wearing No.99 during spells in Ligue 1 and with AC Milan, but the Italy international has now switched it up as he finally arrives in the Premier League.
Football Insider have taken a look at which other players have sported the No.25 shirt at Man City, with the years included below.
Initially arriving at City in 1988 from Luton Town, Dibble experienced a seven-year spell before joining Rangers on a free transfer in March 1997.
The goalkeeper, while he experienced a positive start to life at the club, injuries and increased competition saw his game time plummet, often being sent out on loan.

He made just 28 Premier League appearances across three seasons with the Citizens, but he might be more well-known to other fans after conceding a bizarre goal against Nottingham Forest, having the ball headed out of his hand by Gary Crosby.
Richard Jobson joined City in 1998, reuniting with manager Joe Royle, who had previously signed him at Oldham Athletic, going on to make 57 appearances across all competitions.
Featuring as a defender, Jobson played a key role in the club’s back-to-back promotions from the third tier to the Premier League, even scoring a crucial goal in a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in 1999.
Lucien Mettomo was a very early acquisition in Kevin Keegan’s spell at the club, arriving on a £1.5million transfer fee from Saint-Etienne in 2001.
The Cameroon defender made 23 league appearances in his debut season as City secured promotion back to the Premier League, with many highlighting how key he was to success.
However, after gaining promotion to the top tier, his minutes on the pitch drastically reduced, especially after Sylvain Distin’s arrival, eventually leading to his exit in August 2023.
Despite making just two appearances for Man City, Arni Arason, an Icelandic goalkeeper, is seen as a cult figure amongst fans after creating a special moment in the FA Cup.
In a fourth-round replay against Tottenham at White Hart Lane, City trailed 3-0 at half-time, and only had 10 men.
But with an incredible double-save, denying Gus Poyet a rebound, he sparked an unbelievable 4-3 comeback win.
Another of Keegan’s signings, and another goalkeeper, Geert De Vlieger, never really settled during his time with the Citizens due to multiple injuries.
He never made an official appearance.
Just two years after signing from Willem II, he was released by the club, joining Zulte Waregem in Belgium.
One of the most iconic players to ever wear the shirt, Joe Hart is a much-loved figure by the majority of fans at the club, even seven years after leaving permanently in 2018.
With 348 total appearances, the former England shot-stopper easily goes into the history books as one of the club’s biggest legends, even after Pep Guardiola’s decision to replace him with the ball-playing Ederson all those years ago.
Wayne Bridge arrived from Chelsea in January 2009, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract as the club’s new No.25 before that was later changed to three.
The full-back made 42 appearances across all competitions before the signings of Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov forced him to drop down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.
He is certainly a name synonymous with the Premier League, but when it comes to his time at Man City, it was not the highlight of his footballing career.
Emmanuel Adebayor’s arrival marked one of the major signings at the beginning of a new era at Man City, but his time with the Citizens was short-lived, to say the least.
Despite splashing £25million on the striker, and notching 19 goals and five assists in 45 appearances, his most memorable moment will always be sprinting the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans.
After loan spells with Real Madrid and Tottenham, he would eventually join the latter on a permanent deal for just £5million three years after his arrival.
Another iconic player to don the No.25 shirt for Man City, Fernandinho is the first name every City fan thinks of when attempting to make this list.
The 40-year-old, who is currently a free agent, enjoyed nine successful years with the Citizens, making 383 appearances in all competitions, even scoring 26 goals in that time.
Rival supporters were unsure of his arrival, having come from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013, but the midfielder continued to show exactly why the club put so much faith in him to thrive.
The latest player to wear the shirt before Donnarumma – Manuel Akanji.
The Switzerland international has just joined Inter Milan on loan for the rest of the 2025/26 campaign.
Although he signed for the club for just £15million in 2022, there is no understating just how important he has been for Guardiola’s recent success in the Premier League and Champions League.
The centre-back amassed 136 appearances in just three seasons at the Etihad, and now, he has passed the shirt to City’s newest goalkeeper, who will be battling Trafford for the starting position.
