Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White shared an emotional goodbye message to former manager Nuno Espirito Santo after his shock exit.

Nottingham Forest made the decision earlier this week to sack Nuno and replace him with Ange Postecoglou after weeks of growing tension between the Portuguese coach and the club’s hierarchy.

Football Insider revealed that Nuno held “crisis talks” with owner Evangelos Marinakis and was set to be dismissed if talks broke down, which was subsequently confirmed.

Nuno was publicly dissatisfied with the club’s transfer activity, particularly the signing of Douglas Luiz and the decision against the signing of Adama Traore.

In the wake of his departure, Gibbs-White has dedicated his own farewell message to the former manager on social media, thanking him for his time at the club.

Gibbs-White posted on Instagram to share a farewell message to Nuno following his sacking, and captioned his post with:

“Boss, it’s been an absolute pleasure.

Thank you for your trust and for giving me the best memories of my football career so far.

Players across the Premier League shared a reaction to his post, with Callum Hudson-Odoi, Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Jordan Henderson all leaving a like on the message.

Gibbs-White himself came close to leaving Forest last summer after Tottenham triggered a controversial release clause in his contract.

However, the club threatened legal action, blocked talks with Spurs, and Gibbs-White ultimately signed a new deal with Forest to secure his future.

The Englishman has been influential ever since Nuno was appointed, with the midfielder accumulating 17 goals and assists last term, helping the side earn Europa League qualification.

With Nottingham Forest moving quickly to appoint Postecoglou, the Australian now faces a tough start as his first game in charge comes away at Arsenal on 13 September.

However, he has a chance to make history as Forest have not beaten Arsenal away from home since 1989, when Brian Clough was in charge.

Only Fulham have a worse current run against the Gunners, but Postecoglou will see it as an opportunity to make an immediate statement after a dramatic week at the City Ground.
