Giorgi Mamardashvili has made a ‘crazy’ admission as he prepares to make his debut for Liverpool.

The Georgia international is expected to start in goal against Southampton in the Carabao Cup third round on Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old featured prominently for the Reds in pre-season, but has been left as an unused substitute throughout the campaign to date, with Alisson Becker retaining his position as Arne Slot’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Liverpool agreed an initial £25m deal with Valencia last summer to sign Mamardashvili, with it decided that the shot-stopper would remain with the La Liga outfit for the 2024/25 campaign before moving to Anfield at the end of the season.

Mamardashvili has certainly had to be patient to make his first outing for the Reds as a result.

And while he might find himself behind Alisson in the pecking order, he has paid tribute to the Brazilian as he revealed the impact his fellow goalkeeper has already had on him ahead of his Reds debut.

"(They are) really good people.

“When I was a child, it was like a dream to meet players like Alisson, Virgil [van Dijk] and Mo [Salah].

“Now I'm with them and I'm so happy.

I knew it before but what I saw is crazy, it's really crazy.

"I have had to be patient.

I work hard every day."

While Alisson remains as Liverpool’s number one, it was all-change in the Reds’ goalkeeping department this summer.
