Ekitike was sent off for taking his shirt off during his celebration as he was shown a second yellow card.

Slot selected Mamardashvili to face Southampton, with first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker rested for the game.

The Georgia international put in an impressive performance on his full debut, which marked his first competitive appearance since arriving from Valencia earlier this year.

Hours after the final whistle, Mamardashvili took to social media to issue a message after making his full debut for Liverpool.

"First official game for Liverpool," wrote Mamardashvili on Instagram.

Grateful for all the support."

Slot namechecked Mamardashvili when praising the players who impressed for Liverpool against Southampton, while also admitting why he wasn't entirely pleased by the performance.

"Not our best performance.

A first goal for Alexander [Isak] and another from Hugo [Ekitike].

"Positives from the game but how we played as a team - not taking anything away from Southampton because they played well - it wasn't our best performance."
