The football community continues to adjust to a world in which Diogo Jota and Andre Silva are no longer in it.
The Portuguese brothers tragically lost their lives in a car crash incident on July 3rd, plunging the football world into mourning.
An unimaginable and unexpected loss, as two people departed the earth with so much more to give.
Diogo Jota, of course a Liverpool forward, saw his number immortalized by the club across all levels and most recently was included in the squad list for next season, if anyone wished to personalize their new kit with his name on the back.
A touching act from the club.
Tributes have poured in for the duo, and the pair’s first career club have now done something that arguably tops them all.
Diogo Jota and Andre Silva started their careers at Gondomar SC, and the Portuguese club have launched 2025/26 kits that include pictures of the brothers on their kits.
On top of that, their names are visible on the back of kits near the neck area accompanied by an infinity symbol.
The brothers were both from Gondomar in the eastern part of Porto and played for the club as youth players.
In 2022, Gondomar SC’s academy was named after Diogo Jota.
The club said of the shirts via their social media channels:
“This tribute stems from the deep sense of loss felt by the club and the entire Gondomar community.”
“Diogo Jota, who always maintained an emotional connection to our country and our club, and Andre Silva, who shared the same dream and passion for football, continue to inspire generations of young athletes growing up on our pitches.”
The jersey will be used in all official matches of the season.
