Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker were left supremely unimpressed by the abuse directed at Trent Alexander-Arnold by Liverpool fans on Sunday.

Richards said: "I was at the game, to be fair there were a lot of people clapping [Alexander-Arnold]...



He's going to one of the best football clubs in world football.



"To see him booed when he came on, it was just not a nice moment in football.

But it left a sour taste in the mouth, especially for one of their own."

Shearer agreed, telling his colleagues: "I didn't like that.

I don't like fans booing players, [especially] after what he's done for Liverpool.

The prospect of losing a homegrown star without a transfer fee has left many Liverpool supporters feeling a sense of betrayal, especially amid reports that negotiations may have been taking place behind closed doors for some time.

That said, others feel the fans ought to give the player their blessing, especially since he's a local lad who has won everything there is to win at Liverpool, and isn't leaving for a direct rival.

Time may yet soften the boos into applause, but for now, emotions continue to run high.
