Gary Neville has suggested that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has "hit a brick wall" after his dip in form continued in Saturday's 2-2 draw with West Ham United.

The forward was named on the bench by Jurgen Klopp for the Premier League clash at the London Stadium after struggling in Wednesday's Merseyside derby against Everton.

Salah replaced Luis Diaz in the 79th minute against West Ham with the score level and failed to make an impact.

Since missing the wins over Luton and Nottingham Forest, the 31-year-old has managed just two league goals in eight games.

He has been linked with a move away from Anfield in the summer, rumours that were sparked further after his touchline spat with departing manager Klopp.

Salah currently has 17 Premier League goals with three games remaining, meaning he is on course to record his lowest goal tally for Liverpool since his move from AS Roma in 2017.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast after Arsenal's north London derby win over Tottenham Hotspur, Neville has claimed the Egypt international needs a break after a hectic season for the Reds.

“Mo Salah has just hit a brick wall, and again, have got to be careful here," he said.

"There is a player out here called Son (Son Heung-min) that I think hit a brick wall about 18 months ago, was it, or so where he looked like he was gone, he was struggling.

Salah has been almost ever-present for, like, six, seven years, it feels like.

“There just comes a point whereby they just need a break.

“He just looks like he has just run marathon after marathon after marathon after marathon in every season, and it has got to a point where mentality and physical it has got to a point where he probably thinks, ‘it hit me’, and you don’t even know it sometimes.
