The Liverpool midfield played Manchester United off the pitch in Sunday's dominant 3-0 victory at Old Trafford.
19 year-old-Kobbie Mainoo had his usual flashes of brilliance in the Red Devils midfield against Liverpool.
However, he was directly at fault for the third goal conceded and was frequently out of position in transition during the first half.
Former Liverpool midfielder-turned-pundit Graeme Souness left a scathing critique of the United youngster for talkSPORT: “He might be a player one day, but he's certainly not the go-to man at United like they're making him out to be in midfield.
They got ran over, they were not in the game yesterday."
More than anything, Souness expressed that Mainoo perhaps shouldn't be starting each game for United: "Mainoo right now should be a player that's flitting in and out of a good team - not coming in and being asked to stand up and play against the very best teams."
Mainoo burst onto the scene last year and has started each of the Red Devils' games this season in a midfield two alongside Casemiro.
Mainoo ranks in the 77th percentile for interceptions and 68th for interceptions for midfielders.
Since he's so young and has only featured under one manager, it's hard to know what role Mainoo is best suited for.
Thus, Mainoo may be best suited for a three-man midfield alongside a destroyer and a distributor.
Ten Hag should probably experiment with playing Mainoo as an 8 alongside the ostracized Christian Eriksen in front of new signing Manuel Ugarte
Souness also called on Manchester United fans to pump the hype train on their talented teenager: "Mainoo might be a player, but it's so Man United."
"This is not to be critical of Man United, it's never been any different
