West Ham United boss Graham Potter could already be facing the sack after his side were embarrassed by Chelsea at the London Stadium on Friday.

Lucas Paqueta’s early goal handed the Hammers an early lead, but it wasn’t enough to stop Chelsea racing to a 5-1 victory on 22 August.

Potter’s defence were all over the place as Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Trevoh Chalobah all scored for Enzo Maresca’s side.

After West Ham lost 3-0 to Sunderland on the Premier League’s opening weekend, the East Londoners failed to bounce back and have now conceded a whopping eight goals in two games.

While the current Premier League season is just two games old, the former Chelsea boss has steered the Hammers to just five wins in 21 attempts.

Largely thanks to Potter’s shortcomings, the East London outfit finished just 14th in the top flight last season.

Meanwhile, their poor performances against both Sunderland and Chelsea portray the Irons as a side who are destined for a relegation battle.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier backed Potter as the first manager to be sacked this season.

The former England international’s prediction appears increasingly likely to come true, as West Ham continue to suffer poor results in the Premier League.

While Potter struggled with a squad compiled by former managers David Moyes and Julen Lopetegui last season, the London Stadium faithful expected better once the 50-year-old had utilised the summer transfer market.

But even though West Ham have signed players like Malick Diouf, Kyle Walker-Peters, and Callum Wilson this summer, there have been no early signs of improvement.

After previously impressing with Brighton, Potter endured an underwhelming stint in charge of Chelsea during the 2022/23 season, before struggling in East London.

If and when he is sacked by the London Stadium club, Potter may have to look further afield than the Premier League for his next job.

Meanwhile, former Brentford and Leicester City boss Martin Allen has backed the Hammers to sign England Under-21 star Jonathan Rowe in a West Ham Zone exclusive.
