West Ham manager Graham Potter’s position will be under ever-more pressure at the London Stadium if the club was to sell Lucas Paqueta to Tottenham.
Potter has overseen a heavy 5-1 defeat to Chelsea and a 3-0 loss to Sunderland to start their Premier League campaign in dismal fashion.
The former Brighton boss has yet to make an impact at the London Stadium and it was expected that a period of recruitment this summer would change his fortunes at the club.
Whilst the transfer window has not yet closed, Potter has only added four new additions to the squad, with Jean-Claire Todibo signing permanently following a loan spell.

Potter faces problems at both ends of the pitch with the Hammers defensively woeful in both matches and lacking much threat going forward.
Football Insider exclusively revealed that West Ham need to raise funds before they urgently add quality to the squad.
One player that could depart is Paqueta, and according to talkSPORT [26 August] a fee over £60million has been placed on the 27-year-old.

If West Ham sanction a sale for Paqueta then the Hammers would be left without a natural number 10 in the squad, something which cannot be allowed to happen in their current predicament.

Tottenham are exploring a move for Paqueta after Morgan Gibbs-White signed a new contract at Nottingham Forest and Arsenal hijacked the deal for Eberechi Eze.
Paqueta could be the second West Ham player after Mohammed Kudus to join Spurs this summer, in what would only add to the frustration aimed at Potter as he reportedly wouldn’t like to lose him.
Paqueta is currently one of West Ham’s few star players and letting him leave would do Potter no favours.
With just days left of the transfer window, being able to sign a proven replacement will be tricky and the Hammers have found it tough all summer due to PSR rules to add quality signings.

Losing Paqueta and not signing a replacement would almost certainly cement West Ham as relegation candidates, with Jarrod Bowen already suffering from a lack of service even with the Brazilian in the team.
Potter’s transfer business this summer could be questioned, especially with goalkeeper Mads Hermansen who has had an awful start in-between the sticks.
Recruitment is key and West Ham’s has been poor over the last couple of season, accumulating into the mess the club currently find themselves in on the pitch and there is little evidence to suggest that Potter can be the manager to change that.
Selling to buy is one thing, but Potter is already looking precarious after losses to Sunderland and Chelsea so seeing a second star leave for Spurs could lead to him being made the scapegoat for a toxic situation.
