Liverpool are waiting to see whether they’ll be in a position to make a second bid to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
The Reds have identified Isak as their top target for the striker position having already added Hugo Ekitike to the squad this summer.
But, understandably, Newcastle are keen to keep hold of the Swede after another 20 plus goal season in the Premier League.
The Toon rejected a £110m offer from Liverpool for Isak on Friday, and are trying to sort a replacement before inviting another offer.
Newcastle making their own signing is not guaranteed, and Benjamin Sesko is deciding between the Magpies and Manchester United.
As Isak’s move to Liverpool hangs in the balance, former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has given his verdict on whether the transfer will ultimately happen.

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer says he thinks his old club should sell Isak, as long as they can secure a replacement as well as the fee they are looking for.
Not all supporters will agree with their former striker, but with over £100m on the table, that would feel like the smart move.

Pardew said he thinks Isak’s head has been turned back in July, and speaking to TalkSPORT on Sunday evening, the former Newcastle boss admitted that his ‘gut feeling’ was that the 25-year-old will now join Liverpool.

“This boy, he’s got to come back and he’s [Eddie Howe] got to get him back from Spain, he’s training on his own at his old club,” said Pardew.
“It doesn’t bode well and I said this last week, my gut feeling is that he’s going.
And I think the bid they put in for Sesko smacks to me that they know and they need to move and get the best on the market right now.”
Although the feeling is generally that Isak is more likely to join Liverpool than not, it still depends on Newcastle finding their replacement.
The Sesko deal hangs in the balance, with United seemingly the better placed to sign the Slovenian.
Fortunately for Liverpool, it sounds as though Newcastle are starting to put together a back-up plan for their own striking targets.
Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope reported on Sunday evening that PSG’s Goncalo Ramos is on the list for Newcastle, while Spanish journalist Eduardo Burgos claimed that Porto’s Samu Aghehowa is also being considered.
Sesko is seemingly not the only option for the Magpies, and as the days tick along, it feels more likely that Pardew’s gut feeling will be realised.
