The away end cared little for either the performance or the defeat itself but the record books will show Liverpool lost 3-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

In a league campaign that has seen just three reverses all season, this was the one that hurt least for supporters, undoubtedly, as they continued their party from last week at Anfield when they were confirmed as champions of England for a 20th time.

The ECHO, of course, was at Chelsea to assess the game as exhaustively as ever.

We also had the reactions of both Arne Slot and Enzo Maresca after what was Liverpool's penultimate away fixture of a wildly successful season.

Our colleagues from the national press were also on hand to run the rule over proceedings.

The likes of Harvey Elliott, Jarell Quansah, Wataru Endo and Kostas Tsimikas were given a chance to prove to Slot why they deserve to play a bigger role in the future after bit-part contributions this season.

"So while this game, result or display does not matter at all to most Liverpool fans, it was a chance to shine for the back-up brigade.

Whether it’s enough remains to be seen."

Over on The Mirror's pages, Scott Trotter writes: "While some Liverpool players were still in a position to celebrate - Ibrahima Konate was among the substitutes and singing along with Liverpool fans as he warmed up on the sidelines - others perhaps knew they were playing for the futures.

"Kostas Tsimikas, Jarell Quansah, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo, Diogo Jota all came into the starting lineup with something to prove.

It perhaps does not leave substitutes Federico Chiesa and Darwin Nunez in a promising position at the club."

And in the ECHO's verdict, the focus remains very much on a fanbase in party mode.

"Arne Slot and his Liverpool players might have been forgiven for raising an eyebrow at what awaited them at the full-time whistle here at Stamford Bridge.
