England captain Harry Kane was amongst teammates who were asked for comment on the potential language barrier between themselves and Luis Diaz - after his Bayern Munich debut on Saturday.

Liverpool confirmed the winger's transfer to Germany earlier this week.

Diaz's move was one the Reds had shown a reluctance towards at first, telling Barcelona and Bayern the 28-year-old was not for sale despite his contract being ready to expire in 2027.

In the end the German champions offered up £65.5m and it was accepted to make a £23m profit on the player bought from FC Porto three-and-a-half years ago.

Settling quickly into his surroundings, Diaz has been thrown straight into the action with an unofficial bow made during Bayern's latest summer friendly - a 2-1 win over Lyon at the Allianz Arena.

The Colombian was introduced alongside 10 other half-time substitutes and took only eight minutes to make an impact, winning the penalty for Michael Olise to net the match's opener.

The former Crystal Palace winger was then able to score another, before Lyon replied with a goal, though it was too little, too late.

"Yeah, I thought he done great today," Bayern and England striker Kane, as quoted by Kerry Hau, told reporters in assessment of Diaz's first outing since leaving Liverpool.

"Obviously in training we've only spent a couple of sessions [together], but he looks hungry, he looks sharp.

"It looks like he's happy to be here and plays with a smile on his face.

"I thought today you could see he was very effective in the final third and so yeah, we're really going to need him this season, so excited to have him."

One concern that was put to the ex-Tottenham Hotspur star was the language barrier between Diaz and his new teammates.

With manager Vincent Kompany having spent the majority of his playing career in the Premier League the German champions predominantly communicate in English, while Diaz did spend the last three-and-a-half years in the country.

But Kane commented: "His English is okay.

"Obviously, there are not many players in the team who talk Spanish - not me!

But honestly, his English is not too bad, so I think he can communicate well with the team.

"Hopefully his English and maybe his German, as well, picks up so some of the other players can talk to him.

"With the coach talking English a lot of the time, I don't think he has a problem."

Also speaking to members of the media on the topic, Bayern captain Joshua Kimmich replied: "We have a few guys who can speak a bit of Spanish.

So we're managing that as a team."

In his spell with Liverpool Diaz won the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, the latter twice, and contributed towards 64 goals in 143 appearances.
