Harvey Elliott expressed his delight at getting back on the scoresheet for Liverpool against Tottenham Hotspur, admitting that initially, he thought his stellar finish was going over.

The 21-year-old provided the last of the Reds’ four goals as they secured a 4-2 victory over Spurs at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Following strikes by Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Cody Gakpo, Elliott showcased his talent with a sweet effort from the edge of the area, sending the ball swirling into the top left corner at the Kop end.

The victory on home soil provided a resounding response to dropped points in Liverpool’s previous two league fixtures: a 2-0 defeat at Everton and a 2-2 draw at West Ham United.

With this win, the Reds have secured at least third place this term.

However, they currently trail Arsenal and Manchester City by five and four points, respectively, having slipped behind in the title race.

Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, Elliott said: “You know, I thought it was [going] over, to be honest!

“I didn’t know [it was going in] until I saw it drop at the end and it went in the back of the net.

On top of that, there was motivation there within us all to go out and put it right.

“We all know that in the last couple of weeks we haven’t been good enough.

“Today was an opportunity to put it right at home, and the boys went out there and did a great job.”

On Cody Gakpo’s newborn, Elliott said: “It was a great feeling when he dropped the news?

“We were on top of the moon, pleased for him and today was dedicated to his little boy.”

Elliott has racked up 51 appearances, scored four goals, and provided nine goals across all competitions for Liverpool this season.
