Harvey Elliott’s future at Liverpool is not exactly clear heading into the final two weeks of the summer window.

The 2024-25 season proved particularly frustrating, with the midfielder managing just two Premier League starts – both coming after Liverpool had already secured the title.

His total of 371 minutes across the entire Premier League campaign told a sobering story of a player increasingly marginalised despite his obvious talent.

RB Leipzig’s interest in Elliott has intensified following their expected loss of Xavi Simons to Chelsea.

The German club sees the Liverpool midfielder as the ideal replacement for their creative fulcrum, with reports suggesting personal terms have already been agreed between Leipzig and Elliott’s representatives.

The Anfield club has set their valuation at around £50 million, though there are suggestions they might accept a lower fee if it includes favourable terms.

With his contract running until 2027, Liverpool hold a strong negotiating position, but they also recognise Elliott’s need for regular playing time.

It was always thought that Liverpool would be keen to cash in on the England U21 star this summer.

But according to Ben Jacobs, it seems that Arne Slot and Co would rather him stay at the club as a squad player.

Taking to X, the reporter claimed:

“Liverpool’s preference is to keep Harvey Elliott.

Leipzig still working on a deal, but nothing agreed club-to-club as of Thursday morning.”

“At the right price, Liverpool will reluctantly sanction a sale due to understanding Elliott’s desire to start every week.”

“Yet Elliott staying would be welcomed by Liverpool as he remains a valued squad player.”

Elliott has been open about his situation at Anfield, telling The Anfield Wrap during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia:

“If I had it my way I would be here for the rest of my career, it’s as simple as that.”

“I love everything about the club, but at the same time I kind of need to be selfish and see what’s best for me.

“I have big ambitions.

It’s something I still need to review.”
