Harvey Elliott has bid farewell to Liverpool in an emotional Instagram post after completing a loan move to Aston Villa.

On transfer deadline day, Liverpool struck a deal with Villa that will see the 22-year-old spend the season in the Midlands, with an obligation to buy next summer.

The clause would see Villa pay £35m for Elliott, dependent on appearances.

The Liverpool ECHO also understands that Arne Slot’s side have secured a sell-on clause, although the exact percentage has not been disclosed.

It proved to be a late deal on deadline day, with Villa confirming the move after the 7pm cut-off.

Shortly afterwards, Elliott posted a heartfelt goodbye to Liverpool, writing: "When I joined Liverpool in 2019 it was a dream come true for me and my family.

As a young child I travelled the world supporting the team as a fan and words will never be able to explain the feeling I had when I pulled on that famous red shirt for the first time as a player.

"Over the course of the last six years I’ve experienced so much and grown from a young 16-year-old boy into a man during my time at the club.

Thank you to the board and Jürgen Klopp for helping me live my dream of becoming a Liverpool player.

"To Arne Slot, all of the coaches and staff who have helped me along the way and of course my teammates.

It’s been a privilege to play with you all and I feel lucky to have made so many lifelong friends along the way.

"To the incredible Liverpool fans.
