Harvey Elliott signed a new, improved five year contract with Liverpool and then insisted: 'I hope I stay here for life'.

The rising young Liverpool star has extended his contract with a new improved deal that will keep him at Anfield until 2027 - illustrating the faith boss Jurgen Klopp has in the 19 year old, who suffered a serious injury last season.

“This is why I’ve come here, to be honest, establish myself in this team and play as much as I can for Liverpool.

“That’s all I want to do, I just want to put the shirt on, go out and play and just enjoy myself, because I was playing in the back garden as a kid in a Liverpool shirt…scoring goals and pretending to be these players, and now I’m playing with them!

“It’s such a big club, there’s world-class players around the team so there’s no room for slacking or not performing to the best of your abilities, so there’s always that in the back of my mind.” Elliott explained that he has two huge motivations now - to prove himself capable of staying at Liverpool for the rest of his career, and showing that he is truly back following his injury.

“It feels more of a first-team contract in terms of me, and how it’s going to run in these next couple of years.

“I think for myself, personally, I have a lot to prove and the team has a lot to prove.
