Harvey Elliott’s 2024/25 campaign has been defined by frustration, as the 21-year-old midfielder has seen his playing time plummet under Arne Slot compared to the trust he enjoyed under Jurgen Klopp.

Once a regular contributor in Klopp’s final season (53 appearances, 4 goals, 11 assists in 2023/24), Elliott has started just four matches across all competitions this term, accumulating a mere 583 minutes – a 79% reduction in starts.

Elliott’s struggles began in September 2024 when he suffered a fractured foot during international duty with England’s U21s, sidelining him for six weeks.

The injury came at a critical juncture, preventing him from making an early impression on Slot the opening months of a congested fixture schedule he surely could have impacted.

Under Klopp, Elliott evolved into a versatile weapon.

However, this season, he’s been restricted to late cameos, with zero Premier League starts and just 44 league minutes.

As a result, the 21-year-old has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, with reports suggesting the club have put a £40m price tag on the 21-year-old’s head.

But speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the former Fulham man seems to have no intention of giving up his career on Merseyside:

“I hope that I can push on [next season],” Elliott asserted.

“This is my team, I am committed to them and it’s just a situation that is always going to have a lot of talk, I just need to think about what is best for my future, my career and as much as I want it to be here.”

“You never know what is going to happen around the corner.

If I had it my way, that would be here, I would play each and every game here and stay here for the rest of my career but it all depends on managers, the people above and as I said you don’t know what could happen but as far as I am aware I am here, here to stay and this is the club I want to be at.”

“Hopefully I am still here to be honest.

It is the best place to be, the best club to be at and especially having the fans around us at the moment, I don’t think there is a better place to be playing.”

Elliott then referenced the aforementioned foot injury that stopped him from starting the season how he would have wanted to:

“I think it’s been a lot more difficult for me because I obviously had that injury at the start,” Elliott explained.

“But at the same time, you need to be here for the team, work as hard as you can and when the opportunities come on the pitch.”

“A lot of times this season it’s almost been [coming on] when we’ve been losing or drawing, so it is about trying to change the game, try and turn it around and have a positive impact?

But, you know, any minutes for Liverpool are amazing.”
