Harvey Elliott admits he will make the best decision for his career this summer as speculation over leaving Liverpool during the transfer window continues.

Reds star Elliott has linked up with his Liverpool teammates in Hong Kong for the pre-season tour off the back of the Under-21 European Championships, where he starred in England's triumph and scooped the Player of the Tournament trophy.

He made just two starts in the Premier League last season though and returns to Liverpool with an increased competition for places following the arrival of Florian Wirtz for a club record fee from Bayer Leverkusen, and now Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Elliott addressed his future at the end of last season, insisting that he wants to stay at the club but his future would ultimately be decided by Arne Slot, Richard Hughes and the Liverpool hierarchy.

But the 22-year-old has now admitted he is ready to be 'selfish' as he looks to earn a place in Thomas Tuchel's squad for the World Cup next summer.

Speaking to The Anfield Wrap, Elliott said: "If I had my way, I’d be at Liverpool for the rest of my career.

My main focus is here, unless anything changes."

Elliott is not likely to be short of offers if he does decide to move on from Liverpool this summer

Newcastle has also been mooted as a potential destination after Liverpool's approach for Alexander Isak, with the likes of Brentford and Wolves also thought to be keen.

Former Liverpool defender Conor Coady insisted after Elliott's heroics for England's Under-21s that he needs to take the next step in his career.

He said: "I don’t think he needs to help with his confidence; I think he’s a confident boy anyway and you see that at Liverpool week in, week out, when he plays.

“We’ve seen that in this competition

We’ve said before about him being a leader - I think he’s shown that he’s a leader - but I think it’s massively important the next step he takes in his career.

“Whatever he does now, whether that be at Liverpool or elsewhere, that he goes plays and plays a lot

I think he’s at that level now where he has shown to all of us and all the supporters that he is ready for that next level.”
