Although the severity of the knee injury he suffered has not been confirmed, manager Thomas Frank admitted it was 'bad' after the match.
Maddison's expected absence has reignited the club's interest in Elliott.
Spurs have internally discussed a potential move for the 22-year-old throughout the current window.
West Ham also previously held talks with the Reds earlier this summer but were put off by their £40million asking price.
Meanwhile, Frank's side have shown their spending ambition having been prepared to pay £60million for Morgan Gibbs-White before the deal collapsed.
Spurs' interest in Elliott has now been given the seal of approval by former loanee Alan Pardew.
Asked if the north London club feels like a good fit, the talkSPORT co-host told Breakfast: "It does for me.
I think he would be absolutely ideal to take that role."

Jeff Stelling added: "I think he's a terrific player.
And obviously he's on the periphery at Anfield.
"He deserves more Premier League time.
From my perspective, he's used to life in London because he used to be at Fulham.

"So I think it would be a great shout.
Maybe people will look at Harvey Elliott and say, ‘oh, he's not really a Spurs type player’.
"But we don't know what Spurs are going to look like during the coming season because they've got a new man in charge."
Pardew also cited Frank's previous work at Brentford, concluding: "I think if I was Harvey Elliott and I was his agent or in his team, I think Spurs is an absolutely perfect fit.
"The manager has been brilliant with young players at Brentford.
Crooky on Grealish, Eze, and Elliott
Although he has already made 92 Premier League appearances for the Reds, he was limited to just 18 last term.
Arne Slot has since signed Florian Wirtz to add to the competition for places in his midfield ahead of the upcoming campaign.
