When Harvey Elliott reflects on the warmer months of 2025, he might just remember the halcyon days of his playing career.

Confirmed as a Premier League champion with Liverpool in late April, on what was a famous Anfield afternoon after beating Tottenham 5-1, the 22-year-old then got his hands on a winners' medal the following month as the newly-crowned champions were celebrated by around 60,000 supporters inside the ground itself.

It was the sort of occasion that had been 35 years in the making and the following afternoon saw Elliott and his team-mates embark on a city-parade where it was estimated that over one million fans poured out on to the streets to salute their heroes.

That Elliott started the afternoon nursing the effects of the previous evening's celebrations at the Municipal Building was proof enough of a player keen to enjoy the fruits of his labour, and by the time the Calvin Harris set had soundtracked the route towards the city centre, he was back in the swing of it all, enjoying the sort of scenes that rarely come along in a playing career.

From there, Elliott went on to shine for the England Under-21s at the European Championship in Slovakia, scoring five goals in total for Lee Carsley's side as the Young Lions secured back-to-back titles, having also won it in 2023.

The 3-2 victory over Germany in Bratislava on Saturday night saw the Reds starlet open the scoring before he was awarded the Player of the Tournament award, post-match.

Elliott joins illustrious company alongside the likes of Luis Figo, Juan Mata and Fabio Cannavaro as previous winners of the gong and while he is still very much one of the junior members, in age terms, of the Liverpool squad, at Under-21s level he is one of the leaders.

"At so many moments throughout the season the likes of Mohamed Salah has had to score important goals, winning goals," Elliott said after his match-winning double helped see off the Netherlands in the semi-final at the start of the week.

"Towards the end of the season Van Dijk came up and scored a header in the 90th minute [against West Ham].

Having only turned 22 in April, the former Fulham teenager has managed to amass close to 150 appearances for one of the true heavyweights of the Premier League, all while missing five months with a broken ankle and having spent a campaign out on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

Under Jurgen Klopp, he became one of the most trusted midfield lieutenants.

A player who was just as reliable playing in much-changed Carabao Cup or Europa League sides as he was starting huge league games with Manchester City or cup finals at Wembley.

In total, Elliott played 53 times for the former manager in his final campaign on Merseyside, missing just four Premier League games.

This time out, though, it's been a marked contrast with Arne Slot unable to offer him anywhere near a similar volume of minutes.

Only Wataru Endo and Federico Chiesa featured for fewer than Elliott and having played a total of 1352 across the 23/24 term, the versatile midfielder turned out for just 371 this time out.

A foot fracture, detected on England duty in September, didn't help.

Having been sidelined for nearly three months in total, midfielders like Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister had gained Slot's trust by the time Elliott returned to action, leaving him with an uphill battle from late November onwards.

That no Premier League starts came before the title was confirmed on April 27 spoke volumes to where he stood in the pecking order.

Speaking to the ECHO in April, Elliott struck a defiant tone when insisting Liverpool was his club.

Should it be made clear that Elliott's time on Merseyside is coming to a close, the champions won't be short of suitors.

The immediate days might remain, as much of the summer has been so far, a theme of celebration for the Premier League-winning, European Championship-lifting Elliott.

But as he gets set for a much-deserved end-of-term holiday, the Liverpool star might find he has plenty to mull over ahead of his next career decision.

Reminiscing about those halcyon days between April and June can wait while he contemplates his immediate and long-term future.
