Liverpool have made some huge signings but they already have some current stars who often go under the radar.
The Reds have strengthened many areas of the pitch this summer but arguably none more so than the midfield despite signing just one player.
Florian Wirtz may have cost a British record of £116m, but a player of his quality does not come around very often, hence why Liverpool were so quick to pounce.
The German will very likely steal the headlines next season, just as he has all summer, with the 22-year-old hopefully helping the Reds retain their Premier League title.
However, even before his addition, Liverpool’s midfield was very strong and one of the best in the league, with former Red Lucas Leiva believing there is one player in particular who deserves much more credit than he currently gets.

Liverpool attack is usually the area of the pitch that receives the most plaudits, but their midfielder was truly the driving force behind their successful season.
Alexis Mac Allister especially played a vital role with his dominant performances and wonder-strikes to help tip the balance of certain games, but he does not always get the praise he deserves.
This is something Lucas was quick to point out as he believes his £35m transfer from Brighton was a sensational piece of business.

“What a player, what a fantastic player.
I think he’s capable of doing that link, you know, between defence and attack,” Lucas said while speaking to Redmen TV.
“Very composed, you know, I agree, probably he doesn’t get the headlines, but I’m sure inside the team, he’s well respected and we can see, you know, it’s not only for Liverpool, before as well, for the national team, you know, he played, he plays a big part of the success of the Argentina.

“Unfortunately, you know, I have to say that, but, but yeah, fantastic player.
He was a fantastic signing and we just hope that he continues like that.”
The expectations for Liverpool next season will be greater than ever, and Mac Allister has a vital role to play in how it turns out.
The Argentine will be the ‘floater’ in the midfield, with his job to kick start the attacks and join them whenever he can.
The ever-reliable Ryan Gravenberch will be his protector while Wirtz will have the pressure of providing goals and assists, meaning Mac Allister is free to roam in all honesty.
He may never get the headlines but he is certainly an irreplaceable player in the middle of the park for the Reds, and fans should definitely count themselves lucky as he might not be around forever.
