Liverpool are entering a key week in the transfer window as they aim to wrap up more deals in good time.

The Reds have already put the finishing touches on the signing of Jeremie Frimpong, who became their first signing of the summer on Friday.

But with the window now open until June 10th, Liverpool are pushing to get more transfers over the line.

The biggest of these will be the move to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool are fixing to spend a record fee on Wirtz and are currently locked in negotiations with Leverkusen to make that happen.

Given the size of the sums of money, this was never going to be a simple and quick deal to do.

Nonetheless, fans have started to grow anxious at the wait.

There were claims from Germany over the weekend that the deal for Wirtz will not be completed before Wednesday, when he plays for the national team against Portugal.

There have been claims that the Reds want four more players after confirming the 22-year-old’s arrival.

But as they are set to spend more than £100m on him, they really need to get this one wrapped up first.

And despite fans getting anxious, journalist Fabrizio Romano says things are still moving in a positive direction between Liverpool and Leverkusen, with Wirtz expecting to join the Reds ‘very soon.’

“I’m told that even during the weekend Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have been in contact on the structure of the add-ons to close this deal with 130 [million Euros] on the table from Liverpool,” Romano told his YouTube channel on Sunday evening.

Speaking to sources, Wirtz is expecting to join Liverpool, Wirtz is expecting to be a Liverpool player very soon and the conversation is still very positive.”

“The agreement as of now is not done but my expectation is that it will be done soon,” he adds.

“Wirtz wants to join Liverpool, he’s been very clear on this with Bayer Leverkusen.

He hopes his wish will be respected and he feels this is going to happen because the relationship is excellent.”

After speaking at some length about Wirtz on Sunday evening, Romano also came online to offer a Monday morning update on the transfer.

“Liverpool remain confident to finalize Florian Wirtz deal as new round of talks has been scheduled this week,” said the transfer expert.

“Club optimistic to get the agreement sealed with Bayer Leverkusen soon.”

While it is frustrating that little progress has been made over the past week or so, it does not appear that the intention of any of the parties involved has wavered at all.

Wirtz wants to join Liverpool, Liverpool are desperate to get him on board and Leverkusen are willing to let him go if their conditions are met.
