'He looks unsure': Steve Nicol says one Liverpool player looks so dodgy this season

Liverpool edged past Newcastle but individual performances will worry Arne Slot.

The Reds have looked far from convincing at the beginning of the new season, something that was not in the script given the amount of money they have spent this summer.

Rather than comfortably beating teams with their new look side, they have relied on yet another last-minute winner, with this coming from 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha.

The fact a teenager has saved the day will be a huge concern as, bar Hugo Ekitike, none of the new signings have really shown that they are worth the money that has been spent for them.

The Reds needed a revamp in the summer and both full-back positions were areas that needed upgrades, both for very different reasons.

A new right-back was required as Trent Alexander-Arnold moved to Real Madrid, while another left-back was wanted due to Andy Robertson’s sudden downturn in form.

Milos Kerkez was the player they decided to go for, with the 21-year-old a hugely exciting prospect at Bournemouth last season.

However, as of right now, he is yet to show any signs of rekindling that form, with Nicol left very worried with his outings after the first two games of the season.

“It’s an absolute concern [the full-back areas].

Every single thing he’s been doing, he looks unsure when doing it.”

The former Reds full-back also admitted that he is worried about the other flank too, even though both are trying to recover from injuries.

“Then on the other side, I worry about Bradley.

He can’t seem to stay fit, and then we are also not quite sure yet with Frimpong,” he continued.

“So absolutely it is a big concern [the full-back issue].”

Reds fans would have, of course, hoped that Kerkez would come in and hit the ground running, but what they need to remember is that he is still only 21.

He was at Bournemouth for just two seasons so this is certainly a big jump to make so young, and adapting to Slot’s style of play will take a little bit of time.

He has all the attributes needed to be successful, right down to his personality, so week on week he should just get better.

The Hungarian certainly played better than he did against his former side in gameweek one, but equally he has plenty more to give, something that he could show against Arsenal next week.

If not, he then has an International break to prepare further, so fans should probably reserve judgement until a few more games have passed at least.
