Liverpool are interested in signing Florian Wirtz, and the odds of the Bayer Leverkusen superstar making the move to Anfield increased dramatically over the past 24 hours.
The Germany international is regarded as one of the best players in world football, Liverpool have now advanced their pursuit of Wirtz as Arne Slot looks to shatter the Reds’ record transfer to bring the 22-year-old to Merseyside this summer.
With Bayern Munich even admitting that Wirtz is more likely to join Liverpool, the likelihood of the Bundesliga talisman joining the Premier League champions is now starting to look like a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’.
And Germany’s national team manager, Julian Nagelsmann, has now shared what Wirtz has told him about potentially joining Liverpool in the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking to Sky Germany, the former Bayern coach shared that he told Wirtz to make his own decision about joining Liverpool this summer, with Nagelsmann saying he wants the attacking midfielder to make the right choice for himself without any outside influence.
Given Nagelsmann’s affiliation with Bayern, the Germany manager made the right decision in not trying to sway Wirtz in choosing the new Bundesliga champions over Liverpool, with the Reds now closing in on the 22-year-old.
Nagelsmann said: “He texted me, we exchanged a few messages, I tried to give him tips to the best of my knowledge and belief.
I told him I can’t make the decision for him because my opinion is not necessarily the right one.

“The final decision is his.
I’m excited to find out about his decision.
Let’s wait.”
With Liverpool also close to adding Jeremie Frimpong to their ranks, the Reds are wasting no time in building their squad for next season as Slot looks to retain the Premier League title and to challenge for every trophy going in the new campaign.
And after Nagelsmann’s comments, Wirtz joining Liverpool now looks like a dead cert, with the 22-year-old attacking midfielder on course to become potentially the biggest and most exciting Anfield signing in many a year.
Indeed, Wirtz is a world-class player who will only become better under Slot at Liverpool, and the Merseyside giants should be applauded for getting the deal wrapped up at the earliest possible juncture, especially with other clubs eyeing the Leverkusen maestro.
