Rhys Williams told Henrie Kwushue on UMM’s official YouTube channel that Virgil van Dijk would ‘bully’ him in Liverpool training.

The Liverpool academy product stated that he doesn’t score many headed goals in training despite being one of the tallest players at the club.

Last season was a breakthrough campaign for Williams, who was offered more Premier League minutes because of injuries to the likes of Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

This is what Williams had to say about his aerial ability in training and how he loves taking on a shot.

“I don’t you know (score a lot of headers in training),” said Williams. “When we do shooting drills, I fancy myself.

“I can shoot hard, but it’s not accurate. With headers, I always get beat by Joel (Matip) and when Virg was about. He used to bully me in the air.”

Both Nat Phillips and Williams can count themselves unlucky that they might not earn any Premier League minutes with Liverpool next season.

It seems as though Phillips could be heading for the Anfield exit door, whilst Williams is now behind Van Dijk, Matip, Gomez and new boy Ibrahima Konate in the centre-back pecking order.

Either way, their performances towards the back end of last season, which helped the Reds secure a third-place finish, is one they will no doubt remember for a long while.
