Liverpool target Donyell Malen is on the verge of sealing his move to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund with Fabrizio Romano reporting that an agreement has been reached.

For the Dutch international, it’s ‘here we go’ time at last.

In fact, it’s a surprise that Malen has had to wait this long for a move to one of Europe’s bonafide big hitters.

A man who failed to make the grade in the Premier League with Arsenal has been in irrepressible form in the Netherlands, scoring 27 times last term for a PSV Eindhoven side who never even looked like challenging Ajax for Eredivisie honours.

A couple of stellar showings at Euro 2020 only enhanced the striker’s reputation, Malen forming a thrilling partnership with fellow Phillips Stadium alumni Memphis Depay and Gini Wijnaldum.

And PSV coach Roger Schmidt has already admitted that he will not stand in Malen’s way should a club from one of Europe’s top-five leagues make an acceptable bid for a man who could cost around £30 million.

Who will Liverpool turn to after Donyell Malen blow?

Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Liverpool would have had no qualms about ‘breaking the bank’ for Malen, while O Jogo suggested that a player-plus-cash deal involving Marko Grujic could also be on the cards.

At this stage, however, it would take something very dramatic indeed in Malen was to slip through Dortmund’s grasp.

“Donyell Malen has just signed his contract with Borussia Dortmund until June 2026,” says perennial news-breaker Romano before busting out his famous catchphrase.

“Done deal and here-we-go confirmed. Paperwork completed between the two clubs. PSV have accepted all clauses included in the deal. Official announcement soon.”

Despite being linked with what feels like half of Europe at this stage, former RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate remains the only addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad with Liverpool’s summer characterised more by outgoings than incomings.

Malen, meanwhile, will be expected to help Dortmund move on from Jadon Sancho during Marco Rose’s debut season in the hotseat.
